Armstrong and Wildman - Colorblindness is the New Racism
1. "But until educators teach about the importance of analyzing how privilege operates, students will graduate ill-equipped to work effectively in a diverse environment"(pg.66). This quote stood out to me, I think it is not only on the educators, but that may be the only way some students learn about privilege. Teaching about privilege is also about teaching history, empathy, intersectionality, and advocacy (for yourself and others).
2. Colorblindness urges not to see race or color, but in a society where these labels carry such deep meaning, it pushes for mindful ignorance.
3. Color insight can help us see how we are all intersectional beings.
Argument Statement
- The authors argue that colorblindness is ignorance. You are essentially refusing to see the whole person and their experiences, which continues this cycle of oppression.
Jose Gomez - Why Bad Bunny's Super Bowl Halftime Show Mattered
1. Spanish is one of the most commonly spoken languages in the Americas, but because the U.S. views itself as America, that is often ignored.
2. La casita can represent how home moves with migration. Bad Bunny takes La casita everywhere with him for this tour.
3. "When the systems failed us, we climbed back to the light ourselves"
Argument Statement
- Gomez argues that this was a DEEP performance and showed how resistance and joy can be intertwined in the Latino community.
